Internet PCs
How do I log on to your Internet PCs?
There are two ways to get started. Either way, you'll be online quickly
and conveniently.
Prepaid Internet Cards - Just purchase a Prepaid Internet Card from the
Walkwire Location. Each Prepaid Internet Card comes in 20 and 60-minute
denominations. Enter the Access Code into the area provided on the screen
and you are now ready to check email or surf the Internet. You can reuse
your remaining Internet minutes anytime.
Credit Cards - Swipe your Visa,
MasterCard or American Express and pay as you go. There is a minimum
credit card charge, which will be posted
at the Location. At the end of your session, you can also get an email
receipt for your purchase.
What can I do on the Internet PC?
You can surf the Internet and check Web email on our PCs. Some locations
will provide Microsoft Office applications and Instant Messenger. The
PC application buttons are programmed to go to certain websites. You
can go to any website by simply typing the desired URL into the window
in the top right half of the screen. Please comply with our Terms of
Use, and any additional policies posted at the Location.
Can I use the CD ROM drive?
Our walkwire business PCs will allow you to access the CD drive to retrieve
documents. On our walkwire internet PCs we regret that we don't allow
up- or downloading files as this poses a security risk, by potentially
introducing viruses.
What is POP3 email?
If you use a POP3 (post office protocol) server for your email, you can
still check email on our PCs.
How do I know how much time I have left?
A clock in the lower right corner shows you how much time you have left
on your Prepaid Internet Card. If you are using a credit card, the clock
will show you how much time you have used. Please note that there is
a minimum credit card charge.
What do I do when I'm done surfing?
Click the 'Sign Out' button on the lower right-hand corner to end your
session. Your remaining Internet Card minutes will be saved for future
use.

Wireless Network
What is a Wireless Network?
Wi-Fi allows you to connect to the Internet within a certain range of
our base station without wires, using wireless technology that is similar
to a cordless phone. walkwire operates Wireless Networks at many of our
Locations. Some of them are provided free-of-charge, others require payment.
How
do I use the Walkwire wireless network?
First you will need
a Wi-Fi (802.11b wireless) card in your laptop or PDA. Many new laptop
models have Wi-Fi cards pre-installed. You can also
buy a Wi-Fi card from most computer stores (Amazon,
CompUSA, Best Buy) for under $50. Our wireless service does not require
any additional software other than any web browser.
The network identifier, or SSID, for our wireless service is "walkwire".
Our wireless network "broadcasts" the SSID; most Wi-Fi cards
will notify the user that they have detected a wireless network - you
can then simply "connect" to the network and no further action
is required. Some Wi-Fi cards require you to manually set the "network
identifier" - SSID. Each Wi-Fi card uses a slightly different procedure.
You should know how to set your SSID, and all information required to
connect to our network is contained on the cards we provide to you at
the Location. Please note that the SSID "walkwire" is CASE
SENSITIVE.
How much does it cost?
Payment options and prices may vary from Location to Location and are
posted prominently.
